David Miller is a first-year graduate student in Northwestern's cognitive psychology PhD program, working with David Uttal. His major research foci are (1) social psychological aspects of spatial thinking and (2) the role of spatial thinking in STEM fields. Before Northwestern, he received his B.S. in Mathematical Physics at Harvey Mudd College and Masters in Science Education Research at UC - Berkeley. His undergraduate thesis project with Diane Halpern investigated the benefits of spatial instruction among highly gifted science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) undergraduates. His graduate research at UC - Berkeley with Marcia Linn investigated how computer visualizations can help engage diverse students in learning science.
